Sterling and Manchester City have missed the new contract
Manchester City and Raheem Sterling were unable to agree to sign a new long-term contract. According to Sky Sports, the reason for this is the financial claims of the 23-year-old player. Representatives of the English national have spoken to the club twice after the end of the season, but have not come to an agreement. The club’s wish was the new contract, which was supposed to keep Sterling at Etihad until 2022, to be signed before the start of the World Cup. But this obviously can not happen, as this afternoon the player will travel to Russia.
No new talks between the two sides are currently foreseen.
It is expected that Sterling, who last night scored 23 goals for Manchester City in all tournaments, to be the title holder for England in Russia.
