Slovenia welcomes Latvia

Slovenia welcomes Latvia at the Stadion Stozice in the capital Ljubljana in a game from Group G of the European qualifiers. We will spend few minutes to examine this fixture in our football tips tonight.

At this moment there are three teams in this group which have the same amount of 11 points won.  North Macedonia are third, Slovenia are fourth and Israel are fifth. As you can see, a lot of things could happen here. These three teams will fight to finish third.

At certain point Slovenia were enjoying a run of three consecutive wins, but this run ended with two consecutive losses against North Macedonia and Austria.

The previous round brought dissapointment for the Slovenians, because they suffered a home defeat and missed their chance to climb up to third place. Matjaz Kek’s boys hosted Austria at the Stozice, but the visitors managed to win with Stefan Posch’s only goal in the 21th minute. In this match Slovenia’s Denis Popovic was sent off, so he won’t be avaliable on Saturday.

Latvia are one of the weakest teams in Europe during this qualifying campaign. So far they have 8 losses in 8 games played. It’s curious that the Latvian team is managed by a Slovenian coach – Slavisa Stojanovic. But taking into account the performance of the squad during the Euro 2020 campaign, it’s not clear if he’s going to remain at the job.

Latvia’s goal difference can tell you how bad they are doing so far. In 8 games played, Latvia scored just 2 goals and conceded 27 – truly terrible. In their last game Stojanovic’ boys travelled to Israel, where they suffered a 1-3 loss. Vladimirs Kamess scored the visitors’ only goal in the match.
