Napoli hosts Liverpool

Napoli hosts Liverpool at the Stadio San Paolo in a match from Group E of the Champions League. It’s a curious thing that these two sides meet again in the competition. Let’s take a look in our Champions League predictions.

Last season Napoli and Liverpool were in the same Champions League group, too. The big difference was that Liverpool qualified for the knockout stage and won the competition at the end, while Napoli finished third and had to continue in Europa League.

In Naples Napoli achieved a win over Jurgen Klopp’s boys. The game at the San Paolo ended with a 1-0 win for the Italian side. The only goal in the game was scored in the last few minutes, when Lorenzo Insigne beat Alisson from a penalty kick.

In the Serie A Napoli are currently fifth in the standings with 6 points won. They achieved wins over Fiorentina and Sampdoria, but lost the derby against the champion Juventus in Turin, despite of scoring three goals at the Allianz Stadium. One of them was scored by the summer signing Hirving Lozano, who promises to be a great addition to Carlo Ancelotti’s squad.

In the previous round of the Serie A Napoli hosted Sampdoria at the San Paolo and achieved a comfortable 2-0 win. Both goals in the game were scored by the Belgian international Dries Mertens. Meanwhile the new signing Fernando Llorente made his official debut for Azzurri. The Spanish veteran entered the pitch in the second half and even assisted for Mertens’ second goal.

In our Champions League predictions we can make the conclusion that Napoli and Liverpool are going to offer us some great football. Last year the Italian team beat the Reds at home, but this didn’t help them to progress in the competition. On the other hand, now Liverpool can seek revenge for what happened at the San Paolo.
