Lille started their Ligue 1 campaign with a 2-1 win at home against Nantes, but this was followed by the Dogs’ first loss for the season. Christophe Galtier’s boys travelled to face Amiens SC in a match from the second round, which they lost with 0-1. Amiens’ winning goal was scored in the 70th minute of the game, when Sehrou Guirassy put the ball behind Mike Maignan’s back.

A huge reason for Lille’s defeat is the red card which the midfielder Boubakary Soumare recieved before the halftime break. With 10 men on the pitch, it was much more difficult for Lille to fight back.

Saint-Etienne on the other hand kicked off their Ligue 1 campaign a little bit better. Les Verts won four points from their first two matches. In the first round Ghislain Printant’s team achieved a 2-1 win over Dijon away from home, while in the second round Les Verts made a 1-1 draw during the home game with Brest. Julien Faussurier opened the score for the visitors, but Denis Bouanga equalised for Saint-Etienne just seven minutes before the end of the match.

It was a little bit dissapointing for Saint-Etienne to miss out on winning their first home game for the season, but it is what it is. Right now they are 7th in the Ligue 1 standings with four points won.
