Chelsea and Lille

Chelsea and Lille meet up at the Stamford Bridge in London in a match from Group H of the Champions League predictions. For the visitors this game does not hold any meaning at all, but for Chelsea it could be a win or nothing – they need three points in order to guarantee themselves playing at the 1/8-finals.

Chelsea are currently third in the group standings with 8 points, being on par with the second Valencia, but having worse head to head record. In the other match in this group Ajax faces Valencia at the Johan Cruijff Arena.

For Chelsea this participation in the Champions League group stage was all about improvement. The Blues started their campaign with a dissapointing home loss against Valencia, but in the next four matches they went unbeaten – two wins and two draws. It’s Frank Lampard’s first season managing the club and he’s still building his team, but so far he’s doing pretty good.

In the previous round of the Champions League group stage Chelsea visited Valencia at the Mestalla and won a point after a 2-2 draw. Mateo Kovacic and Christian Pulisic scored for the Blues, but conceding an equalising goal in the 82th minute didn’t allow them to win.

For Lille this game can’t change absolutely nothing. The Dogs are 4th in the group with just one point won and they will finish there. The Frenchmen probably expected something better from their Champions League campaign, but this group proved to be too difficult for them. Their only point so far was won after a draw at home against Valencia.

In our Champions League predictions we expect to see a fully motivated Chelsea on the pitch against Lille. The Londoners know how important it’s going to be to win this match and you can be sure that they have the ambition to reach the 1/8-finals of the competition. They will win this one, that’s for sure.
